Let Me Introduce Myself...
Hi there, I am Mildred Chalmers. Thank you for stopping by. I had a natural singing talent since childhood. Whether grounded in a deep, soul-shaking spiritual or soaring high through a classical-sounding rendition, my one goal has always been to passionately connect the audience with the message of the song. That almost came to an end when singing became a painful ordeal. It began after a surgery that had nothing to do with my vocal instrument, but it negatively affected the quality of my singing. I made peace with the possibility of not stepping on stage anymore, but then I was handed a new song. The lyrics were so compelling that I knew I needed to work on my voice, so as to ensure the message of that song was delivered with the power, depth, and passion that flowed from it. I could not shake the feeling that the song had a destiny.
So What Did I Do?
I prayed, and a thought came to mind to invest in good, quality vocal training. Within a few sessions of vocal training, the pain I felt when singing was gone, my voice was back, and much better than before. Natural talent was great when all was well, but learning the skills to tune and command my vocal instrument took singing to a whole new level, along with improving my confidence and stage presence.
Oh, by the way, my intuition about the song having an assigned destiny proved true when, just over two years later, it was chosen as the official Territorial Song of my country.
I Found A New Passion...
I also developed the ability to tell when other singers had vocal struggles and what the probable solution was. However, it wasn’t until another singer reached out to me for help that I became aware that my knowledge and ability not only improved voices but also impacted lives by enabling other women to reach for their dreams.
So I expanded my education to become a certified singing teacher and vocal coach. I completed a Foundation Certificate in Teaching Contemporary Singing from The Voice College, followed by the BAST Singing Teacher Training Course, and then the prestigious New York Vocal Coach, Voice Teacher Training Course. I also became a certified Vocal Health First Aider because I believe that safe vocal practice is one of the keys to the longevity of a singer’s voice and career.
